Sligo, Ireland, 13/11/2014: Today Thursday 13th November, The Atlantic Equipment Project (AE) launches a new winter collection inspired by the elusive light of the coldest season of the year.
Founded by product designer and surfer Ashleigh Smith, The Atlantic Equipment Project is a growing collection of carry equipment for adventurers along Ireland’s Atlantic coast and beyond.
Designed in AE’s coastal studio in County Sligo, the company emerged earlier this year following 6 years of classical Industrial Design study by Ashleigh, including an MSc at at The Technical University of Delft.
In the darkest of Irish seasons and in the harshest of weather, AE discovered streams of winter light in abundance along the wild Atlantic, in our wintering places, at every moment of the day and night.
AE's new winter line is presented in a palette of new colour: the classic Rolltop Backpack is now available in two new canvas colours, sea green and red, paired with natural webbing, calico and cord elements. Each pack is made with durable and hardwearing 14oz Duck Canvas.
AE’s popular Satchel is re-energised with a moss green canvas option available from today. The new canvases bring a new light and energy to AE’s growing collection of products.
The Red canvas is part of the vibrant transitions of winter sun and shade; the Moss Green canvas reflects the thunderous ocean swell of the harsh winter season while the Sea Green canvas evokes memories of coastal energy and cold water exploration.
Winter light provided Ashleigh a time and space for creating this new line, inspired by a rich canvas of hues, shade and tone, reflected in the landscape and seascapes of the Northwest.
The Atlantic Equipment Tribe
Key adventurers from Ireland’s west coast join The Atlantic Equipment Project today as our tribe grows: big wave surfer Barry Mottershead, designer and surfer Elizabeth Clyne, adventure photographer Christian McLeod, surfers Tom Gillespie and Noel Reynolds all know this west coast intimately and are privy to much of its beauty and and power; winter light and adventure, captured through their eyes will be shared across social media using AE’s new winter hashtag #lightingwinter.
AE’s new winter collection can be found exclusively online at atlanticequipmentproject.com, with the classic originals also available in the Irish Design Shop, Drury Street, Dublin.
